If you have followed YH for a bit, you know that we're huge CRJ stans over here. Seriously. If you know us personally and have been to any of our pregames, you know this.
Carly has a new album that debuts on September 18th and we are so ready.
She's released four singles so far and we're pretty hyped.
But today's release, MOTIVATION, is a special one.
MOTIVATION dropped this morning alongside a music video. The video features queer people of all types.
She knows she's feeding the gays with this single.
First off: it’s house. Proper, thumping, hands-up house. The kind of track that exists to go off at 1am when the floor is packed and sweaty and everyone is a little gone. After showing off her range with the last few drops, this is the one that just belongs to us—because house always has.
And then there’s what it’s actually about. She wrote it about her family. The real ones. The people who are impossible and loud and expect the world from you, but you’d still throw yourself in front of a bus for them anyway. She literally found the rhythm in leaves crunching under her feet back home, which is such a ridiculously Carly way to start a banger that we had to sit down for a second.
The overarching message is "FAMILY"—but the thing that broke us clean in half was her saying she hopes it works as an anthem for chosen family, too.
That’s the whole thing right there. She didn't have to say it, but she did. Chosen family is everything to a lot of us. It’s the friends who picked up the pieces and became home when the first try didn't work out. It’s the people who give us the push to break out of every box the world tries to lock us in. Carly looked right at that, handed us a massive club record, and said this is yours. With her whole chest.
the homos have spoken. these are the hits.
